Research | David Hockney

David Hockney was born in 1937 in Bradford, England. He is a painter, printmaker, stage designer and photographer. He was one of the major contributors to the Pop art movement in the 1960s and is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. Hockney was born with the condition of synesthesia, meaning he sees colours associated with words, letters, and numbers. Hockney had his first "one-man" show when he was 26 in 1963. Later on, David Hockney taught at universities across The United States between 1964 and 1967. In 2012, David Hockney gave paintings worth about $124.2 million to the David Hockney Foundation which gives the paintings to galleries such as the Los Angeles County Museum and the Tate in London. He currently has two exhibitions running; one at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and one at De Young Museum in San Francisco.
